Is it true then that Cherry wood is Toxic?
I looked it up a while ago and found conflicting information. Some people use it for food preparation tables and utensils, other people talk about cherry leaves killing cows.
These are specially cut and dried branches of knarley old cherries, which I hope to draw-knife down to much lighter-weight walking sticks. My plan for the "Flute" is to hide a plug cut in the headpiece, then use that as the origin of the hollow tube.
I intend to use a slanting vent hole to terminate the resonator at it's fundamental length. I read about a guy who does this, and I am sure I will mess it up quite a bit before I get it right.
Talk about end effects!
I still haven't decided if I will use a fipple in the plug cut, a top emboucher like my little pipes, or a standard cross blown flute emboucher which could then have the lip plate you mentioned. I've been drying some maple staves to use as experiments, but they still have quite a while to dry. My Cherry is only one year seasoned, so I have time to make up my mind.
