PostSubject: G'day from Oz ..   G'day from Oz .. Icon_minitimeTue May 27, 2008 3:44 am

G'day all,
I live on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales,Australia...
I like to make things and restore things as well..Over the years I've restored some old Motorcycles, Large Stationary Engines ......anything with rust on it !! Smile
Hobbies are: Motorcycling,Fishing ,Home Brewing (sampling the product is a hobby too !)..
I'm 56 yrs old.married with two kiddies 17 and 15 years old....good kids ..full on !
I've made a few Flutes out of Electricians Conduit (It's Bright Orange here in OZ !!) in keys D,F,G and low Bb....my hands are'nt really large enough for it (the Bb) though...I've been pretty happy with the results although the tuning goes off a bit in the second octave....I've incorporated a lip plate type of thing as well...The best one so far is an F.....a really nice little Flute..
About 10 years ago I made a half set of Uilleann Pipes (all except the Chanter) from plans and I'm pretty happy with them too....
I'd like to,one day, make an unkeyed Irish Flute from Timber.....dont know what species as yet..I really like Box Wood though,so maybe that'll be it...
This site has the potential to be a goodun'....I look forward to its future...see yers...weedie..

Hey Weedie, good to have you. You make three who are looking towards their first wooden full flute. Maybe we have the makings of a group project here.

All Yall'er welcome!

It looks like the "Core Age" of our new Group is in the 40-50 year range(?) I see decades of "man hour" experience coming into focus! I know that there will be plans an designs for you to try soon. I will post some measurements soon, but until then you could look at the Flute calculator site below. Any future photos and building experience you can share with Simpleflutes will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the welcome folks...great to be amongst people with a similar passion..
I'm looking forward to the Flute plans and the idea of a group project is an excellent one...I can hear the bad language of frustration coming from sheds all over the world !!!...
Hey there Buckeye...I'm about 45 minutes North of where your missus lives....It is indeed a lovely part of the world....A beautiful sunny Winters day here today.....about 20 degrees C. no wind.......jeez,a bloke should be out fishing !! Instead I have 3 big logs to cut up using a noisy smelly chainsaw.....should keep us warm for a few months though....
Thats about all for now....all the best to yers..weedie....

Hi All, I am a retired elementary music teacher from west central Missouri.
I have made several hundred pvc fifes (D and C) and bunches of cpvc whistles in lots of keys. Always wanting to learn more and make them better. I offered some whistles on ebay and got snowed under by the demand-----am taking a little time off. Have sent them to several places in Canada, Scotland and about 1/4 of the USA states---just since March. Happy to make your acquaintaince!
