PVC fipple Empty
PostSubject: PVC fipple   PVC fipple Icon_minitimeThu May 29, 2008 9:05 am

My project for now is to make a pvc fipple out of full plastic parts. I have an idea, but it might require more manufacturing than I wanted. Most of that would be to handle spit/condensation. I hate that.

What I want is to make it out of pieces you can buy at the hardware store, and modify with a file or saw, then screw or glue together to make a functioning fipple.

"Fipple" in this case means the whole assembly from mouthpeice to labium.

I'll be using 1/2 inch CPVC and working mostly with pipe threaded parts. I envision it as a centralized mouthpiece, with a small chamber before the windway, which would be filed into the pipe threads, leading to the labium. This will require a plug of some sort, which is normally made out of wood, and exposed. I want mine to be PVC and attached to the pipe in an adjustable fashion.

This may require tapping threads on the inside of the threaded CPVC, we'll have to see.

Time for school, more later.

Well, so far it doesn't look good. I suspect this is one of those inventions that "if it were possible, it would have already been done".

The main problem, even if I could find the size parts in my woefully inadequate hardware stores, is that (of course) pipe threads aren't intended to screw in all the way. I briefly considered using machine thread tap and dies so that I could have each piece thread in the right number of turns and then stop, but that doesn't accomplish my original goal: making something people could screw together right out of the hardware store and have a fipple.

Still working on it.
