Pan/Tabor pipes? Empty
PostSubject: Pan/Tabor pipes?   Pan/Tabor pipes? Icon_minitimeSat May 31, 2008 10:49 pm

I just had a sudden idea, and I'm waiting for some glue to dry to try it out. I'm sure it must have been done before, but I haven't seen it. Maybe someone can tell me how it's been around for hundreds of years and what it's name is.

I just took four pipes, at the lengths of a tabor pipe and it's three holes, and arrayed them like a pan pipe. I hope to be able to blow them in the second and third register, and play them like a tabor.

Now, in my limited experience, pan pipes are stopped, and you cannot play anything but the first register, at double the length. These are, of course, open and can play the harmonic sequence.

Can anybody Name that Tunemaker?

Well, it works, although I don't know if it's any improvement over easier to play panpipes with 8 or more vessels. It has a funky sound, it has abraded my lips and it might take a while to be able to play it with any facility.

But I get 8 notes out of it so far. Well, actually I get a lot more than that, but I mean I can sometimes force it to play eight notes of the scale in sequence without it breaking off into odd notes... And this after only 20 minutes...
